Asbestos Rubber Sheets

Model:KXT ARS
Asbestos rubber sheets (model KXT ARS, grades KXB150 to KXB510) are compressed asbestos fibre sheets made from chrysotile asbestos fibre, rubber binder and heat-resistant fillers, manufactured to GB/T 3985-2008. Eight grades cover +150 °C to +510 °C and 1.5 MPa to 14 MPa, with tensile strength up to 21 MPa. Standard sheet sizes up to 4600 × 1500 mm, thickness 0.3–6.0 mm. Suitable for steam, water, air, oil and non-oxidizing chemical flange gaskets. Non-asbestos alternatives (KNXB series) available for restricted markets.

Asbestos Rubber Sheets (also called compressed asbestos fibre sheets, CAF sheets or asbestos jointing sheets; Kaxite model KXT ARS) are sealing sheets produced from chrysotile asbestos fibre, rubber binder and heat-resistant fillers, then compressed and calendered into a dense, paper-like sheet. They are manufactured to GB/T 3985-2008 and supplied in eight standard grades from KXB150 to KXB510, covering service temperatures from +150 °C to +510 °C and working pressures from 1.5 MPa to 14 MPa.

Asbestos rubber sheets are one of the most traditional and cost-effective sealing materials for steam, water, air, oil and non-oxidizing chemical service. They are widely used to cut flange gaskets, vessel gaskets and general industrial die-cut parts. Standard sheet sizes go up to 4600 × 1500 mm, with thickness from 0.3 mm to 6.0 mm.

Regulatory note — please read before ordering. Asbestos is a regulated material in many countries. Buyers are responsible for confirming that import, sale and use of asbestos-containing products are permitted in their market and for complying with all applicable health, safety and disposal regulations. For markets where asbestos is restricted or prohibited, Kaxite supplies equivalent non-asbestos jointing sheets (KNXB series) — please see the non-asbestos sheet page or ask our engineers for a cross-reference.

What Is an Asbestos Rubber Sheet?

An asbestos rubber sheet is a compressed fibre gasket material. Chrysotile asbestos fibre provides the heat resistance and mechanical reinforcement; the rubber binder (typically NBR, SBR or natural rubber) gives the sheet its flexibility, compressibility and resistance to water, steam and oils; heat-resistant fillers complete the formulation.

The sheet is produced in a controlled multi-stage process:

  1. Fibre opening — chrysotile asbestos fibre is opened and graded to a controlled fibre length.
  2. Mixing — fibre, rubber binder, fillers and vulcanising agents are blended into a uniform compound.
  3. Calendering — the compound is calendered into a continuous sheet of controlled thickness.
  4. Vulcanising & finishing — the sheet is vulcanised, trimmed and inspected for thickness, density and surface quality.
  5. Testing — tensile strength, compressibility, rebound, ageing and heat-and-pressure resistance are checked against GB/T 3985-2008.

Because the fibre-to-rubber ratio and filler type can be adjusted, the finished sheet can be tuned for higher temperature, higher pressure or better oil resistance. Tell us your medium, temperature and pressure and we will recommend the right grade.

Available Grades — KXB150 to KXB510

The KXT ARS family covers eight grades. Each grade is identified by its maximum recommended steam temperature; higher grades also deliver higher tensile strength and higher pressure capability.

Grade Max Temp. (Steam) Max Pressure Tensile Strength Typical Service
KXB150 +150 °C 1.5 – 2 MPa ≥ 5.0 MPa Low-pressure water and air lines
KXB200 +200 °C 2 – 3 MPa ≥ 6.0 MPa Water, steam and general industrial flanges
KXB250 +250 °C 3 – 4 MPa ≥ 8.0 MPa Saturated steam and hot-water flanges
KXB300 +300 °C 4 – 5 MPa ≥ 9.0 MPa Medium-pressure steam lines
KXB350 +350 °C 7 – 8 MPa ≥ 12.0 MPa High-temperature steam and process piping
KXB400 +400 °C 8 – 9 MPa ≥ 15.0 MPa High-pressure steam headers and vessels
KXB450 +450 °C 11 – 12 MPa ≥ 18.0 MPa Superheated steam and power plant service
KXB510 +510 °C 13 – 14 MPa ≥ 21.0 MPa Highest-temperature steam and industrial sealing

Heat-and-pressure resistance test: each grade must hold for 30 minutes at its rated temperature and pressure without puncture, per GB/T 3985-2008. Grades and values above are typical for the KXT ARS family; please request the current data sheet for exact limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an asbestos rubber sheet used for?
Asbestos rubber sheets are used to cut flange gaskets, vessel gaskets and general industrial sealing parts. They are most commonly specified for steam, water, air, oil and non-oxidizing chemical service, where a cost-effective, heat-resistant compressed fibre gasket material is required.
Which grade should I choose — KXB150 to KXB510?
Choose the lowest grade that meets your maximum continuous steam temperature and working pressure. For example, KXB150 is suitable for low-pressure water and air lines up to +150 °C, while KXB510 handles superheated steam up to +510 °C and 14 MPa. Tell us your medium, temperature and pressure and our engineers will confirm the correct grade.
What is the difference between KXB and KNY grades?
KXB grades are the standard KXT ARS asbestos rubber sheets with good all-round performance for steam, water and general service. KNY grades are oil-resistant asbestos rubber sheets, formulated with a nitrile binder for better resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. If your application is mainly oil or fuel, ask for the KNY series.
What sheet sizes and thicknesses are available?
Standard sheet sizes range from 1270 × 1270 mm up to 4600 × 1500 mm, with thickness from 0.3 mm to 6.0 mm. Other sizes and thicknesses, including laminated thicker build-ups, can be produced on request. Die-cut gaskets and strip-cut sheets are also available.
Is asbestos rubber sheet legal in my country?
Asbestos is regulated in many countries, and import, sale or use of asbestos-containing products may be restricted or prohibited. Buyers are responsible for confirming that the product is permitted in their market. For markets where asbestos is restricted, Kaxite supplies equivalent non-asbestos jointing sheets (KNXB series) — please ask our engineers for a cross-reference.
Can you supply a non-asbestos alternative?
Yes. Our KNXB series non-asbestos jointing sheets are formulated with aramid fibre, glass fibre, carbon fibre and NBR/SBR binders to deliver comparable sealing performance without asbestos. Send us the KXB grade you are currently using and we will recommend the closest KNXB equivalent.
What is the MOQ and delivery time?
Standard MOQ is 500 kg, negotiable for trial orders or mixed containers. Production lead time is normally 15–25 days after order confirmation, and stock sizes can ship sooner.
Can I get a free sample before placing an order?
Yes. We provide free A4-size samples for evaluation; the buyer covers the courier cost, which can be deducted from the first order. Send us your grade, thickness and application details so we can send the most suitable material.
Send your specification — get a quotation and a free sample Include grade, thickness, sheet size, medium, temperature, pressure and annual quantity for the fastest response.
