Important: this product contains asbestos

Asbestos fibres are classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the IARC. The use, import, sale and processing of asbestos-containing products is prohibited or severely restricted in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and many other jurisdictions. In countries where asbestos products remain permitted, users must follow local occupational exposure limits and safe-handling regulations during cutting, drilling, machining and disposal.

If your market restricts asbestos, Kaxite supplies non-asbestos equivalents with comparable oil and steam resistance. See the non-asbestos alternatives listed below, or ask our technical team for a material substitution recommendation.

  • EU: Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex XVII — asbestos banned
  • UK: Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
  • US: EPA Asbestos Partial Ban; OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1001 for occupational exposure

Material and Construction

KNY150 is built from three components that determine its oil and heat performance:

  • Long-fibre asbestos. Provides the heat resistance, mechanical strength and dimensional stability of the sheet, and is the main reason KNY150 can operate continuously at +150 °C.
  • Oil-resistant synthetic rubber. The binder that gives the sheet its elasticity and resistance to kerosene, fuel oil, lubricating oil and petroleum-based media. The higher the grade number (KNY150 → KNY600), the higher the rubber content and the better the oil resistance.
  • Heat-resisting fillers. Mineral fillers that improve compression set, creep relaxation and long-term sealing performance under thermal cycling.

The compound is calendered into sheet form and compression-moulded to the required thickness. Steel-wire reinforced variants are available with an inserted wire mesh for higher pressure and blow-out resistance.

KNY Grade Comparison — Choose the Right Sheet

The KNY series runs from KNY150 (economy, moderate oil resistance) to KNY600 (premium, highest oil and pressure resistance). All grades share the same 150 °C temperature limit; they differ mainly in tensile strength, oil resistance and compressibility.

Grade Tensile strength (MPa) Rebound rate (%) Oil resistance Typical use
KNY150 (this sheet) 9.0 50 Moderate Economy oil and steam flanges
KNY250 11.0 35 Good Automotive and engine gaskets
KNY300 12.7 45 Better Fuel oil and solvent lines
KNY400 15.0 50 High Petrochemical and refinery service
KNY510 18.0 50 Highest Critical flange and high pressure
KNY600 — — Highest Severe oil and chemical service

KNY250, KNY300, KNY400, KNY510 and KNY600 are available in the same sheet sizes as KNY150.

Asbestos-Free Alternatives

If your market restricts asbestos, or if you prefer to specify a non-asbestos material for new equipment, Kaxite supplies equivalent jointing sheets in the KNNY non-asbestos series. These use aramid fibre, NBR or EPDM binder and mineral fillers in place of asbestos, with comparable temperature and oil performance.

  • KNNY300 non-asbestos jointing sheet — general-purpose oil, water and steam service, comparable to KNY300.
  • KNNY350 non-asbestos jointing sheet — higher temperature and pressure, suitable for refinery and chemical service.
  • KNNY400 non-asbestos jointing sheet — heavy-duty oil and chemical resistance, comparable to KNY400.

Tell us the operating temperature, pressure and media — we will confirm whether a non-asbestos grade is suitable, and if not, explain honestly why.

Buyer FAQ

Is asbestos rubber sheet still legal to buy and use?

It depends on your market. Asbestos-containing products are banned in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Canada and many other countries. In markets where asbestos products remain permitted (including parts of Asia, the Middle East and Africa), they are usually subject to occupational exposure limits and safe-handling rules for cutting, machining and disposal. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm whether KNY150 can be supplied, and what documentation is required.

What is the difference between KNY150 and KNY300?

KNY150 has a tensile strength of 9.0 MPa and moderate oil resistance, while KNY300 has a tensile strength of 12.7 MPa and better oil resistance. Both share the same 150 °C temperature limit and 1.5 MPa working pressure. KNY150 is the economy grade for moderate oil and steam service; KNY300 is preferred for fuel oil lines and solvent exposure.

Do you supply a non-asbestos equivalent to KNY150?

Yes. Kaxite's KNNY non-asbestos jointing sheets use aramid fibre and NBR or EPDM binder instead of asbestos, with comparable temperature and oil performance. For KNY150-level service, KNNY300 is usually the closest match. Contact us with your media, temperature and pressure and we will recommend the closest non-asbestos alternative.

What sheet sizes and thicknesses are available?

Three standard sheet sizes: 1500 × 1360 mm, 1270 × 1270 mm and 1500 × 1500 mm. Thickness from 0.5 mm to 6.0 mm. Custom cut gaskets and non-standard sheet dimensions can be produced to drawing.

Can you supply steel-wire reinforced sheet for higher pressure?

Yes. A steel-wire inserted variant of KNY150 is available for applications that require higher pressure resistance and blow-out protection. Tell us the working pressure and flange standard and we will confirm the correct construction.

What is the maximum temperature and pressure?

KNY150 is rated for a maximum working temperature of +150 °C and a working pressure of 1.5 MPa. For higher temperature service, consider graphite sheet or non-asbestos high-temperature jointing sheets. For higher pressure, the steel-wire reinforced variant or KNY400/KNY510 are the correct choices.

Do you supply material certificates and test reports?

Yes. Material declaration, GB/T539-2008 batch test report and traceability record are available on request. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TUV or client-nominated) can be arranged or hosted at additional cost. See our certificates.

How quickly can you quote and ship?
