UHMWPE Sheet — Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Sheet with Superior Wear, Impact & Corrosion Resistance

UHMWPE Sheet manufactured by Kaxite Sealing
UHMWPE Sheet — molecular weight above 3 million, delivering outstanding wear resistance, impact strength, corrosion resistance and self-lubrication.

UHMWPE Sheet is a high-performance engineering plastic made from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with a linear molecular structure and a molecular weight above 3 million. It combines five exceptional properties — wear resistance, impact strength, corrosion resistance, self-lubrication and impact absorption — at levels that are difficult to match with any other thermoplastic. Because of this combination, UHMWPE is known worldwide as the "amazing material" and is widely used to replace metal, PTFE and other engineering plastics in demanding industrial applications.

What Is a UHMWPE Sheet?

UHMWPE Sheet is a solid, semi-crystalline engineering plastic sheet produced from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene resin. Unlike standard HDPE, UHMWPE has a molecular weight above 3 million, giving it a very long linear polymer chain. This long-chain structure is what produces the material's exceptional combination of wear resistance, impact strength and self-lubrication.

UHMWPE Sheet is soft enough to absorb shock and vibration, yet resistant enough to outlast steel in many sliding-wear applications. It does not absorb moisture, does not corrode, and is chemically inert against most acids, bases and solvents. Its very low friction coefficient means it can be used without external lubrication, and its non-stick surface prevents material build-up in chutes, hoppers and guide rails. Because the sheet is easy to machine, drill and weld, it can be fabricated into almost any wear part — from small bushes and gears to large bridge-pier protection boards.

Key Advantages

  • Superior wear resistance — outlasts steel, PTFE and nylon in sliding-wear applications
  • High impact strength — absorbs shock and vibration without cracking
  • Excellent corrosion resistance — unaffected by most acids, bases and solvents
  • Self-lubricating — very low friction coefficient, no external lubrication required
  • Non-stick surface — prevents material build-up in chutes, hoppers and guide rails
  • Does not absorb moisture — dimensionally stable in wet environments
  • Very wide service temperature range — from −169 °C to +80 °C
  • Lightweight — density around 0.93 g/cm³, much lighter than metal alternatives
  • Easy to machine, drill, weld and fabricate
  • Food-safe and non-toxic — suitable for food processing and medical applications

Typical Applications

1. Textile machinery

Textile machinery is one of the earliest application fields of UHMWPE. Currently, an average of 30 UHMWPE parts are used in textile machinery, including shuttles, gears, couplings, sweeping rods, buffer blocks, eccentrics and rod bushings — parts that must withstand impact and wear.

2. Paper machinery

Papermaking machinery is the second major field of UHMWPE application, accounting for about 10 % of the total. Typical parts include suction box covers, doctor blades, seals and wear strips.

3. Packaging machinery

UHMWPE is used to replace modified fluoroplastic guide rails, fixed plates, transmission devices, guide rails, spacers and guardrails.

4. General machinery

Gears, cams, impellers, rollers, bearings, gaskets, elastic couplings, bolts, pipe clamps and similar parts can be made from UHMWPE. Larger applications include port and bridge-pier protection boards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UHMWPE sheet and HDPE sheet?
Both are polyethylene, but UHMWPE has a molecular weight above 3 million versus around 200,000 to 500,000 for HDPE. This much longer polymer chain gives UHMWPE dramatically better wear resistance, impact strength and self-lubrication. HDPE is stiffer and cheaper, and is used where wear resistance is not critical. For sliding-wear parts, impact pads and guide rails, UHMWPE is the correct choice.
What thicknesses and sheet sizes are available?
Standard thickness is 5 mm to 150 mm. Standard sheet sizes include 1220 × 2440 mm, 1000 × 2000 mm and 1000 × 3000 mm. Custom thicknesses and sheet sizes are available on request. We also cut, mill, drill and weld UHMWPE sheet into finished parts to your drawing.
Can UHMWPE sheet be machined like metal?
Yes. UHMWPE sheet can be cut, milled, drilled, turned, tapped and welded using standard woodworking or metalworking tools. Because it is softer than metal, sharp tooling and moderate feed rates are recommended. We machine finished parts in-house to your drawing.
Is UHMWPE sheet suitable for food contact?
Yes. UHMWPE is non-toxic, does not absorb moisture and is chemically inert, which makes it suitable for food processing equipment, cutting boards, conveyor wear strips and similar food-contact applications. Confirm the specific food-contact regulation in your market with our technical team.
What are your MOQ, lead time and payment terms?
There is no minimum order quantity on standard sizes — sample and trial orders are welcome. Stock sizes ship in 7–15 days; custom molding and machining take 15–25 days. Standard payment terms are 30% T/T deposit with the balance against copy of B/L, or L/C at sight for larger orders.
Do you supply material certificates?
Yes. Every batch is supplied with a material certificate covering resin grade, molecular weight, density, thickness and impact strength, plus a dimensional inspection report. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
