V-Shape Stainless Steel Metallic Strip Tape is the metallic winding element used to manufacture spiral wound gaskets (SWG). It is produced by precision cold-rolling stainless steel or specialty alloy strip and then forming it into a V-shape, W-shape or flat profile. When wound alternately with a soft non-metallic filler such as flexible graphite, PTFE or mica, it forms the high-pressure sealing element of an SWG. The same tape is also used for double-jacketed gasket bodies and gasket eyelets.

What Is V-Shape Metallic Strip Tape?
V-Shape Stainless Steel Metallic Strip Tape is the primary winding element of a spiral wound gasket. It is made from cold-rolled stainless steel or specialty alloy strip, precision-formed into a V or W profile, and supplied on spools for use in SWG winding machines. During gasket manufacture, the metallic tape is wound alternately with a soft non-metallic filler — usually flexible expanded graphite, PTFE or mica — and the ends are secured by spot welding.
The metallic tape provides the mechanical strength and elastic recovery of the gasket, while the filler provides the sealing. The V profile allows the gasket to deform under bolt load and recover as the load changes, which is why SWG is the standard choice for high-pressure, high-temperature and thermal-cycling flange joints. Flat metallic tape is also used for double-jacketed gasket bodies and for forming the eyelets (edge rings) of gaskets, so Kaxite supplies all three profiles — Flat, V and W — from the same production line.

What is the difference between Flat, V and W metallic strip tape?
V and W profiles are used as the winding element inside a spiral wound gasket. The V (or W) cross-section lets the gasket compress and recover under bolt load, which is essential for thermal-cycling joints. Which material grade should I choose?

For a 4.5 mm spiral wound gasket cross-section, the V tape height is typically 4.8–5.3 mm. For a 3.2 mm cross-section, the V tape height is typically 3.6–4.0 mm. The finished gasket thickness depends on the filler and the winding tension, so we recommend confirming the exact V height against your SWG drawing before ordering.
Can you supply the tape on spools for our winding machine?
Yes. All V and W tape is supplied on spools. Tell us the spool weight and inner diameter your machine uses, and we will pack to suit. Standard spool sizes are available; custom spool sizes on request for larger orders.
What are your MOQ, lead time and payment terms?
