Braided Graphite Tube for Heat Exchangers, Boilers and High-Temperature Flange Sealing — OEM Bulk Supply

Braided graphite tube KXT 1830 is formed from expanded graphite yarn into a continuous flexible tube, used as an endless gasket strip on vessels, flanges, doors and covers where conditions are highly uneven, high temperature and high pressure. It is supplied without or with metallic wire reinforcement, and can be produced with a self-adhesive film on one side for faster installation during plant revisions.

The tube is the field-formable sealing solution for heat exchangers, boilers and process pipework where a pre-cut gasket cannot accommodate the actual joint geometry. Buyers are refinery and chemical plant maintenance teams, boiler and heat exchanger OEMs, and industrial seal distributors supplying shutdown and turnaround projects.

What a Braided Graphite Tube Is and Where It Is Used

Braided graphite tube — sometimes called endless graphite gasket strip or graphite tape in tube form — is made from expanded graphite yarn braided into a continuous flexible tube. The tube is supplied on a roll, and the installer cuts and forms it into the exact gasket shape required at the joint. Unlike a pre-cut gasket, it can be wound around any flange profile, including oval, elliptical and irregular manhole or handhole seats.

Typical applications include:

  • Heat exchangers — shell and tube cover plates, channel covers and nozzle flanges where the joint geometry varies between units.
  • Boilers and steam systems — manhole seats, handhole covers, header joints and inspection openings on hot-service vessels.
  • Process pipework flanges — high temperature and high pressure flange joints in refinery, petrochemical and power plant service.
  • Doors and covers — access doors and covers on industrial equipment where the sealing surface is uneven or heat-cycled.
  • Shutdown and turnaround spares — supplied on 2 kg rolls so a maintenance crew can form gaskets on site rather than waiting on pre-cut parts.

Standard vs Wire-Reinforced Graphite Tube — Which to Specify

The two standard configurations differ only in the reinforcement and the resulting pressure capability. Choose based on the joint pressure rating and the mechanical handling the tube will see during installation.

Braided graphite tube configurations
Configuration Max Working Pressure Best For
Standard (no wire) 100 bar General high-temperature flange sealing where pressure is moderate and the tube stays well supported inside the joint.
Wire Reinforced 200 bar High-pressure joints, larger diameter covers and manholes, and any application where the tube must resist extrusion or handling damage.
Self-Adhesive Same as above Vertical or overhead installation where the tube must stay in place before the joint is closed. Can be combined with either standard or wire-reinforced construction.

Prime Features of the Braided Graphite Tube

Feature 01 Easy handling to any size

The tube is cut and formed on site to match the exact joint geometry — no pre-cut sizes, no dies, no measuring errors.

Feature 02 Universal gasket during revisions

A single roll covers every flange size on the shutdown list, which simplifies turnaround spare planning and reduces stock items.

Feature 03 Saves money and time

No waiting for pre-cut gaskets, no minimum order quantity per size, and no wasted offcuts on non-standard joints.

Feature 04 Optional self-adhesive backing

The tube can be supplied with adhesive film on one side so it holds position on vertical and overhead surfaces before the joint is closed.

Feature 05 Extreme temperature range

Service from −240 °C to +550 °C covers cryogenic joints through to hot steam and process service with a single material.

Feature 06 Full pH range chemical resistance

Expanded graphite resists attack across pH 0 – 14, suitable for acids, alkalis and most industrial process media.

Braided Graphite Tube — FAQ

Q 01

What is a braided graphite tube made from?

It is made from expanded graphite yarn that is braided into a continuous flexible tube. The tube can be supplied with or without metallic wire reinforcement, and optionally with a self-adhesive film on one side for installation convenience.

Q 02

What is the difference between the standard and wire-reinforced version?

The standard version is rated to 100 bar and is used for general high-temperature flange sealing. The wire-reinforced version is rated to 200 bar and is specified for high-pressure joints, larger diameter covers and manholes, and any application where the tube needs extra resistance to extrusion or handling damage.

Q 03

What temperature and pH range does it handle?

The working temperature range is −240 °C to +550 °C, covering both cryogenic and high-temperature service. The pH range is 0 – 14, suitable for acids, alkalis and most industrial process media.

Q 04

What sizes are available?

The braided graphite tube is produced in sizes from 1/2" up to 5". Custom sizes outside this range can be quoted on request.

Q 05

How is the tube supplied?

Standard packaging is 2 kg per roll. Other roll weights are available on request. The roll format lets the installer cut and form the tube on site to match the exact joint geometry, without pre-cut sizes or dies.

Q 06

Can the tube be used on irregular or non-standard flanges?

Yes. This is one of the tube's main advantages. Because it is flexible and formable, it can be wound into oval, elliptical and complex joint outlines where a pre-cut gasket would not fit. It is the standard choice for manholes, handholes and non-circular covers.

Q 07

What is the self-adhesive option for?

Self-adhesive film on one side holds the tube in place on vertical or overhead surfaces before the joint is closed. This is useful during shutdown work where the joint is difficult to access and the installer needs both hands free.

Q 08

What quantity is required for OEM / wholesale pricing?

OEM and wholesale pricing applies from 20 kg total order weight. For regular supply agreements and project quantities, we can schedule recurring deliveries and quote tiered pricing. Send the annual or project quantity for volume tier details.
