Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip KXT PG120 — Wear-Resistant Bronze-Filled PTFE Bearing Strip for Hydraulic & Pneumatic Cylinders

Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip KXT PG120 is a bronze-filled PTFE guide strip manufactured from PTFE compounded with 30–50% bronze powder and colored green for easy identification. The guide strip plays a guiding role inside hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders — it prevents the cylinder bore and piston rod from wear, resists chemical corrosion, absorbs vibration, and allows foreign particles to embed safely into the wear ring.

With the low friction of fluorocarbon resin (PTFE), excellent wear resistance, and good dry-running characteristics, KXT PG120 provides a higher load-bearing capacity, thermal-mechanical stability, and improved limit PV value compared to unfilled PTFE. Standard service range is -60°C to +150°C, tensile strength ≥ 15 MPa, and density 2.4–3.8 g/cm³ depending on bronze content.

What is the role of a PTFE guide strip inside a cylinder?

Direct answer: A PTFE guide strip (also called a wear ring or bearing strip) is installed between the piston or rod and the cylinder bore to absorb side loads, prevent metal-to-metal contact, and guide the piston centrally inside the bore. Without a guide strip, the piston and rod rub directly against the cylinder wall, causing rapid wear and eventual seal failure. The guide strip also allows any foreign particles that enter the system to embed into the strip rather than scratch the cylinder bore or damage the primary seal.

Guides Piston and Rod

Maintains concentric positioning of the piston and rod inside the cylinder bore, preventing metallic contact and side-load damage.

Highly Wear-Resistant

Bronze filler gives the guide strip excellent wear resistance, even under sustained high load and elevated temperature.

Low Friction

PTFE provides the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material — reducing heat build-up and improving cylinder efficiency.

Chemical Corrosion Resistance

PTFE is inert to virtually all industrial chemicals — suitable for hydraulic fluid, water-glycol, and aggressive media.

Absorbs Vibration

The guide strip damps vibration and shock loads, protecting both the cylinder wall and the primary seal.

Embeds Foreign Particles

Allows contaminant particles to embed into the strip itself, preventing scratches on the cylinder bore and seal damage.

How does bronze-filled PTFE compare with other guide strip materials?

Direct answer: Bronze-filled PTFE (KXT PG120) offers the highest compressive strength of the common PTFE guide strip materials — 15 MPa static at 25°C, dropping to 8 MPa at 120°C — with a maximum surface speed of 15.0 m/s. Carbon-filled PTFE can run dry at lower loads; phenolic (fabric composite) is used for heavy-load lubricated environments at lower surface speeds.
Material Compressive Strength Max Surface Speed Mating Surface General Uses
Bronze-Filled PTFE (KXT PG120) 15 MPa at 25°C
12 MPa at 80°C
8 MPa at 120°C
15.0 m/s Steel, hard chrome, hardened steel Light load, lubricated environment
Carbon-Filled PTFE 15 MPa at 25°C
12 MPa at 80°C
8 MPa at 120°C
15.0 m/s Stainless steel, hard anodised aluminium Light duty, can run dry
Phenolic (Fabric Composite) 300 MPa at 25°C (static)
50 MPa at 60°C (dynamic)
1.0 m/s Steel, hard chrome, hardened steel Heavy load, lubricated environment

Data per Kaxite datasheet. Choose bronze-filled PTFE for a balance of high speed and moderate load; choose phenolic composite for very heavy loads at low speed.

Where is the Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip used?

Direct answer: KXT PG120 Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip is used for piston and rod bearing applications in hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, presses, and other linear motion equipment where side-load support, low friction, and long service life are critical.
Hydraulic Cylinders

Used as a wear ring on the piston and rod to guide the moving parts and protect the cylinder bore from metal-to-metal contact.

Pneumatic Cylinders

Provides guiding support in pneumatic actuators where low friction and dry-running capability are required.

Industrial Presses

Used in hydraulic presses and forming equipment to support the ram and prevent misalignment under high side loads.

Mobile Hydraulics

Construction, agricultural, and material-handling equipment where hydraulic cylinders operate under continuous load and vibration.

Linear Motion Equipment

Any cylinder or actuator where the piston must be guided centrally under side load — including marine, offshore, and industrial applications.

Chemical Processing

Used where the guide strip must also resist attack from hydraulic fluid, water-glycol, or process media — PTFE is virtually inert to all industrial chemicals.

Frequently asked questions about the Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip

Q1What is a Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip?

A Green-Colored PTFE Guide Strip is a bronze-filled PTFE strip colored green for easy identification. It is installed between the piston or rod and the cylinder bore to guide the piston, absorb side loads, and prevent metal-to-metal wear.

Q2What is the guide strip made of?

KXT PG120 is made from PTFE compounded with 30–50% bronze powder, giving the strip higher mechanical strength, better thermal conductivity, and improved wear resistance compared with unfilled PTFE.

Q3What is the temperature range of the PTFE Guide Strip?

The standard operating temperature range is -60°C to +150°C. Within this range the guide strip maintains its dimensional stability, wear resistance, and low friction coefficient.

Q4What is the maximum surface speed?

The maximum surface speed for the bronze-filled PTFE guide strip is 15.0 m/s, making it suitable for high-speed hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder applications in a lubricated environment.

Q5Can the guide strip run dry?

The bronze-filled PTFE guide strip (KXT PG120) is designed for use in a lubricated environment. For dry-running applications, carbon-filled PTFE is generally preferred.

Q6Why is the guide strip colored green?

The green color is a pigment added to the bronze-filled PTFE compound for easy identification during installation and maintenance. It does not affect the mechanical or chemical performance of the guide strip.

Q7What is the compressive strength of the guide strip?

The compressive strength of KXT PG120 bronze-filled PTFE guide strip is 15 MPa at 25°C (static), 12 MPa at 80°C, and 8 MPa at 120°C. The maximum static compressive strength is 300 MPa at 25°C, and the maximum dynamic compressive strength is 50 MPa at 60°C.

Q8What is the MOQ and lead time?

MOQ depends on strip dimensions, quantity, and configuration. Sample lead time is typically 5-7 days. Production lead time for standard and custom orders is typically 15-25 days after order confirmation.
