Hard Mica Sheet — Rigid Mica Insulating Sheet up to +1000 °F for Electrical, Thermal & Sight-Glass Applications

Hard Mica Sheet manufactured by Kaxite Sealing
Hard Mica Sheet — a rigid mica insulating sheet with high dielectric strength, high thermal resistance and full optical clarity.

Hard Mica Sheet is a rigid mica insulating material produced from natural mica, formed into flat sheets with excellent electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. It withstands continuous service up to approximately 1000 °F (+540 °C), is dimensionally stable at high temperature, and provides reliable dielectric strength for electrical insulation and thermal barriers. The same mica is used as transparent sight-glass for kerosene stoves, wood stoves, furnace peep-holes and microwave ovens, and can be cut into washers, gaskets and heater elements to drawing.

What Is a Hard Mica Sheet?

Hard Mica Sheet is a rigid insulating sheet made from natural mica. Mica has an excellent combination of electrical, physical, mechanical and thermal properties: high dielectric strength, very low thermal conductivity, high transparency and optical clarity, flatness, non-breakability, and heat resistance. Because these properties remain stable over a very wide temperature range, mica has long been a preferred insulation material for high-temperature electrical and thermal applications.

Hard mica sheet is used where a rigid, dimensionally stable insulating barrier is required — for example, as electrical insulation in heaters and appliances, as high-temperature washers and gaskets, and as transparent sight-glass in kerosene stoves, wood stoves, furnace peep-holes and microwave ovens. It eliminates the risk of cracks, breakage and jerks, withstands shocks, strains and vibration at high temperature, and retains its basic strength over the service life of the equipment. Sheets can be supplied in rectangular, oval or circular shapes, in any specified size and thickness, and can be cut, punched or die-cut to drawing.

Standard Mica Sheet Sizes

Width (in) Length (in) Common Applications
2" 2" / 3" / 4" / 5" / 6" Small sight-glass, electrical insulation
3" 3" / 4" / 5" / 6" / 7" Sight-glass, washers, small gaskets
4" 4" / 5" / 6" / 7" / 8" Stove windows, electrical insulation
5" 5" / 6" / 7" / 8" Furnace peep-holes, heater insulation
6" 6" / 7" / 8" Oven windows, appliance insulation
8" 8" / 9" / 10" / 12" / 15" Large sight-glass, industrial insulation

The above sizes are not the complete range. Any size can be supplied in any quantity. Custom thickness, shape and die-cut parts available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum service temperature of hard mica sheet?
Hard mica sheet withstands continuous service up to approximately +1000 °F (+540 °C). Because mica is an inorganic mineral, it does not burn, melt or lose its dielectric properties at high temperature, which makes it a preferred insulation material for heaters, furnaces and high-temperature sight-glass.
What is the difference between hard mica sheet and soft mica sheet?
Hard mica sheet is rigid and dimensionally stable, and is used where a self-supporting insulating barrier is required — such as sight-glass windows, washers and electrical insulating plates. Soft mica sheet is flexible and conformable, and is used where the sheet must follow a curved surface or be wrapped. Both are produced from natural mica; the difference is in the binder and forming process.
What thicknesses are available?
Standard thickness is 0.075 mm to 0.15 mm (0.003" to 0.006"). Custom thicknesses are available on request. For thicker rigid insulation, multiple sheets can be laminated or a thicker mica plate can be supplied. Confirm the required thickness against your application with our technical team.
Can hard mica sheet be cut or punched to my drawing?
Yes. We cut, punch and die-cut hard mica sheet into rectangles, circles, ovals, rings, washers, sight-glass discs and custom shapes to your drawing. Send your drawing in PDF or DXF and we will confirm tooling and lead time.
What are your MOQ, lead time and payment terms?
There is no minimum order quantity on standard sizes — sample and trial orders are welcome. Stock sizes ship in 7–15 days; custom cutting and die-cutting take 15–25 days. Standard payment terms are 30% T/T deposit with the balance against copy of B/L, or L/C at sight for larger orders.
Do you supply material certificates?
Yes. Every batch is supplied with a material certificate covering mica grade, thickness, dielectric strength and service temperature, plus a dimensional inspection report. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
