Butyl Rubber Pipe Primer for Pipeline Anti-Corrosion Tape Systems
KXT-PP is the **base-coat adhesion layer** in a three-layer pipeline anti-corrosion system. Formulated from butyl rubber, resin, anti-aging agent, and antioxidant, it is applied to the **cleaned steel surface** before the anti-corrosion tape is wrapped — the tape's butyl adhesive layer then bonds to the primer rather than directly to the steel. This delivers higher peel strength, tighter sealing at the spiral overlap, and better resistance to soil stress and thermal cycling over the life of the line. Where the Primer Sits in a Three-Layer Coating System

Application Sequence — Four Steps to a Reliable Bond
01 Clean the Steel
Remove rust, mill scale, oil, and dust from the pipe surface. Primer will not bond to a contaminated surface — cleaning quality directly sets the peel strength of the whole system.
02 Apply the Primer
Brush, roll, or spray a thin uniform film of KXT-PP over the cleaned surface. Aim for a continuous, streak-free coat — a heavy puddle is as bad as a dry patch.
03 Wrap While Tacky
The anti-corrosion tape is applied while the primer is still tacky. Once the primer dries completely, adhesion drops sharply — plan the wrap behind the primer application.
! Do Not Let It Dry
Fully dried primer must be re-coated before wrapping. Keep the primer and wrap operations in the same working sequence; plan crew spacing accordingly.

What is paint priming used for in pipeline coating?

Can I use it with your anti-corrosion tape and protective tape?

How is the primer applied?
Clean the steel surface to remove rust, mill scale, oil, and dust. Apply the primer by brush, roller, or spray as a thin uniform film.
