How does joint wrap tape differ from anti-corrosion tape?

Joint wrap tape uses a deliberately thinner PE backing and a significantly thicker butyl adhesive layer than the anti-corrosion tape used on the main pipe length. The thin backing lets the tape conform to weld beads, bends, and irregular geometry; the thick butyl layer fills the gaps that would otherwise trap moisture. Field-Welded Pipe Joints The girth weld disrupts the factory coating — joint wrap tape restores a continuous barrier across the bare steel and into the original coating overlap.

Radius Bends Thin PE backing allows the tape to follow the curvature without wrinkling or bridging, so the inner radius stays sealed through thermal movement.
