Two-Layer Anti-Corrosion System

For long-life pipeline protection, KXT-AT is applied as a two-layer system. The inner anti-corrosion tape is wrapped directly onto the primed pipe, forming the corrosion barrier. The outer protective tape is wrapped over the inner layer, protecting it from mechanical impact during backfill, transport and service.

  • Inner tape — butyl rubber layer bonds to the primed pipe, isolating the steel from soil, water and chemicals
  • Outer tape — high-density polyethylene backing resists mechanical damage and UV exposure
  • Combined system service life exceeds 30 years in buried and submerged service
  • Compatible with common pipeline primers for cold-applied field wrapping

Three Tape Types — Pick by Wall Thickness and Service Condition

Type Selector
T-140 · Standard
T-140 0.40 mm thickness

Standard thickness for general pipeline protection where moderate mechanical protection is required. Suitable for typical buried and overhead pipelines in normal soil conditions.

T-150 · Reinforced
T-150 0.50 mm thickness

Reinforced thickness for higher demands on mechanical protection. Suitable for buried pipeline crossings, road bores and areas subject to rock or heavy backfill.

T-180 · Heavy-Duty
T-180 0.80 mm thickness

Heavy-duty thickness for the most demanding mechanical and corrosion environments. Recommended for submarine pipelines and high-impact service.

Where Anti-Corrosion Tape Is Used

Application Map
01

Underground Pipelines

Buried oil, gas and water transmission lines where soil contact, moisture and stray currents would corrode the steel surface.

02

Underwater and Submarine Pipelines

Subsea and river-crossing pipelines where the combination of salt water and mechanical stress demands heavy-duty protection.

03

Overhead Pipelines

Above-ground pipe racks and supports where UV and weather exposure require a protective outer tape over the anti-corrosion layer.

For field installation, KXT-AT works best with a compatible primer, an inner anti-corrosion tape and an outer protective tape. Related products in the Kaxite pipeline protection range include Protective Tape, Joint Wrap Tape and Paint Priming. Six Reasons Pipeline Contractors Choose KXT-AT

Performance Advantages
ADV. 01

Excellent Insulation Resistance

Polyethylene base plus butyl rubber coating gives excellent electrical insulation and isolates the steel surface from stray currents and galvanic corrosion.

ADV. 02

Low Water Absorptivity

Low water absorption prevents moisture from penetrating the corrosion barrier over the life of the pipeline — a key factor in achieving the 30-year service life claim.

ADV. 03

Wide Temperature Range

The tape operates from −30 °C to +80 °C. That covers most buried, subsea and above-ground pipeline service conditions without loss of adhesion or flexibility.

ADV. 04

Two-Layer Protection

The inner anti-corrosion tape plus outer protective tape combination gives both corrosion protection and mechanical impact resistance — critical for pipelines that will be backfilled with rough material.

ADV. 05

Long Service Life

Over 30 years of service life in buried and submerged service, when applied with the correct primer and outer tape system. Reduces whole-life maintenance cost.

ADV. 06

Convenient Construction

Wraps by hand or with a machine applicator. Safe and clean operation, suitable for factory production and field construction under normal temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buyer Q&A
What is anti-corrosion tape used for?

Anti-corrosion tape is used to protect steel pipelines from corrosion. The tape is wrapped around the pipe — usually over a primer — to form a barrier between the steel surface and the surrounding environment. It is used on underground pipelines, submarine and river-crossing pipelines, and overhead pipelines in petrochemical, water, gas and infrastructure projects.

What is the difference between T-140, T-150 and T-180?

The difference is wall thickness. T-140 is 0.40 mm thick, T-150 is 0.50 mm and T-180 is 0.80 mm. Thicker tape gives more mechanical protection and is used where the pipeline will be backfilled with rough material, run through road crossings, or installed in high-impact environments. T-140 is the standard choice; T-180 is recommended for submarine and high-impact service.

What is a two-layer anti-corrosion system?

A two-layer system combines an inner anti-corrosion tape, applied directly to the primed pipe to provide the corrosion barrier, with an outer protective tape wrapped over the inner layer. The outer tape protects the inner layer from mechanical damage during backfill, transport and service. The combination gives both corrosion protection and impact resistance.

What is the service temperature and service life?

The service temperature range is −30 °C to +80 °C. Service life exceeds 30 years in buried and submerged service when the tape is applied with the correct primer and outer protective tape, following standard pipeline coating practice.

What pipe diameter can the tape cover?

The tape is suitable for pipe sleeve diameters from 50 mm to 1800 mm. Widths from 50 mm to 300 mm allow hand wrapping or machine wrapping on small utility lines through to large transmission pipelines. Send your pipe diameter and we will confirm the optimal tape width.

What widths and lengths are available?

Standard widths are 50, 75, 100, 150, 230 and 300 mm. Standard lengths are 30, 50, 60 and 120 m. Custom widths and lengths are available on qualified orders. OEM labelling and private-brand packaging are supported.

Can I get a free sample before ordering?

Yes. A free sample of the exact tape type and width is available for qualified buyers so you can test adhesion, wrap behaviour and surface finish before placing a production order. Contact Kaxite with your pipe diameter and service condition for a sample recommendation.
